In 1994, the idea of setting up
a Drukpa Kargyud centre in Kuala Lumpur, the capital
of Malaysia, was suggested by a group of eager students
and devotees of H.H the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa for
the sake of those interested in the practice of the
Dragon lineage and to serve as a meeting point for Rinpoches
and Lamas of the lineage to expound the Dharma through
the view of this profound school of Buddhism. The request
took almost one year to materialize and finally, a Drukpa
Buddhist Centre was officially opened in October 1995.

What
is Gyalwang Drukpa had in mind was to establish a Buddhist
centre which could eventually help its members and supporters
within each of their own spiritual minds. The Gyalwang
Drukpa especially advised the committee not to build
the centre by recruiting members, but by nurturing the
spiritual strength of the members or supporters who
have a genuine connection with the Drukpa Kargyud lineage.
In late 1996, at the request of Drukpa¡¯s members
and supporters, the Gyalwang Drukpa sent one of his
most qualified monks ¨C Gelong Ngawang Yonten ¨C to
be the resident Lama of the centre, acting as the
representative of the Gyalwang Drukpa and his lineage,
and as the spiritual guide in daily and weekly group
practices. With the arrival of Gelong-la, the number
of members and supporters began to grow, and the attendees
of group practices also have increased. In mid 2002,
Gelong-la has been replaced by Lama Jignam, an experienced
and qualified monk to be the resident Lama of the
centre.
Since its establishment, many qualified masters of
the lineage have also visited the centre and have
given tremendously helpful teachings and instructions
to improve spiritual and material livelihood. These
Rinpoches include, H.E. Bairo Tulku Rinpoche who is
also the father of the present Gyalwang Drukpa, H.E.
Choegon Rinpoche, H.E. Dorzong Rinpoche, H.E. Satrul
Rinpoche, Venerable Dugu Choegyal Rinpoche, Venerable
Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Minam Rinpoche, Rigden Rinpoche,
Ani tenzin Palmo and others. Various teachings on
the practices of meditational deities, Mahamudra meditational
instructions, and Tunglen practices, etc. have been
provided in helping people with their spiritual pursuits.
